We began in February of 2016 with six children and a team of dedicated volunteers. Since then, we’ve grown to include 33 children from 15 families and a full staff (as well as a team of dedicated volunteers). We continue to grow, and so does our need for space. As we look toward the future, we recognize that adding new families will soon become impossible without adequate facilities.
We’re excited to announce our five-year campaign to build a Bonsai Ministry Center. This new facility will contain ten classrooms, allowing us to expand to include 120 children. It will also include an auditorium/cafeteria, a larger kitchen, offices, and an outdoor play area. As we grow to include more families, we will also be expanding in other ways – teaching marketable skills to parents in our workshops, extending our program for children up through high school graduation, and adding housing for the short-term teams and interns that come to work with us.
The entire ministry center is projected to cost $1.4 million, and has been designed to allow us to build and grow in phases, thus allowing us to begin using the facility as quickly as possible. Our first step is to purchase property on which to build. We’ve negotiated a price on a piece of land that sits virtually in the center of our participating families for $132,000, and would like to purchase the land by the end of 2019.
We’d love to share more information with you, your church, small group, business or organization about how you can partner with us as we “grow Bonsai”. Would you help us reach our goal?
